IPhone XS Max in 2023

The iPhone XS Max is a smartphone designed and marketed by Apple Inc. It was announced on September 12, 2018, as the successor to the iPhone X. The phone has a 6.5-inch Super Retina OLED display, dual 12-megapixel rear cameras, and a 7-megapixel front camera. It is powered by a Hexa-core Apple A12 Bionic processor and has 4GB of RAM. The phone is available in 64GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage options. It also features face ID for facial recognition and is water and dust resistant.

iPhone XS Max battery performance

The iPhone XS Max has a 3,174mAh battery, which is slightly larger than the battery in the iPhone X. To extend the phones battery life you can adapt the following.

Turn off any unnecessary features, such as location services or background app refresh

Close any apps you are not using

Adjust your display settings to reduce screen brightness or timeout

Use airplane mode in low-signal areas

Avoid using power-intensive features, such as gaming or augmented reality, for extended periods of time

Keep your phone up to date with the latest software updates, which may include battery-saving improvements.

The pros

Large, high-resolution display: The iPhone XS Max has a 6.5-inch Super Retina OLED display with a resolution of 2688 x 1242 pixels. This makes it great for watching videos, browsing the web, and playing games.

Powerful processor: The iPhone XS Max is powered by the A12 Bionic chip, which is a fast and efficient processor. This makes the phone capable of handling demanding tasks, such as gaming and augmented reality, with ease.

Dual rear cameras: The iPhone XS Max has a dual camera system on the back, consisting of a 12-megapixel wide-angle lens and a 12-megapixel telephoto lens. This allows you to take high-quality photos with a range of focal lengths and capture portrait mode shots with background blur.

Face ID: The iPhone XS Max includes face ID, which allows you to unlock your phone using facial recognition. This is a convenient and secure way to unlock your phone without having to enter a passcode.

Water and dust resistance: The iPhone XS Max has an IP68 rating, which means it can withstand being submerged in up to 2 meters of water for up to 30 minutes. It is also dust resistant, so it can handle being exposed to dirt and sand.

Long battery life: As mentioned earlier, the iPhone XS Max has a large battery that should be able to last through a full day of use on a single charge.

Software Updates: Apple is still supporting the iPhone XS Max with the phone eligible for the latest ios 16 and on. It is expected to get ios 17 and Apple may still offer additional security updates and so on.

The Cons

No headphone jack: The iPhone XS Max does not have a traditional headphone jack, which means you will need to use a lightning-to-3.5mm adapter or wireless headphones to listen to music.

No expandable storage: The iPhone XS Max is not equipped with a microSD card slot, so you cannot expand the storage beyond the capacity you choose when purchasing the phone.

Large size: The iPhone XS Max has a large 6.5-inch display, which may be too large for some users. It may also be difficult to use with one hand for people with smaller hands.

Replacing the glass battery cover is a hefty task.

In 2023 the cameras may come off short in comparison with current smartphones, the notch can be intrusive at times but you may learn to ignore. Overall this is a premium handset that still looks modern and with the current price at $200 to $350 it fits nicely in to the budget smartphone category.
