PlayStation 4, PS4 In 2023

Play Station 4, PS4 2023

The PlayStation 4 (PS4) is a home video game console developed and produced by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It was first seen on shelves in November 15, 2013, as the successor to the PlayStation 3, which had been in the market since early 2007. The PS4 features improved hardware specifications and a more streamlined user interface compared to its predecessor, some of its competition included the Xbox One and Nintendo WII U.

The PS4 is powered by an AMD "Jaguar" octa-core processor and an AMD Radeon GPU, which together deliver improved graphics and processing power compared to the PS3. It comes with a wireless controller called the DualShock 4, which features a touchpad and a built-in speaker, as well as motion sensing capabilities in addition to rechargeable batteries which stock controller comes with. Unlike the PS3 which is backwards compatible, in that you could run play station 2 games on it the PS4 does not have this capability as such inserting a PS3 disk in the Play station 4 will not work and neither will the digital versions of the same.

The PS4 supports a wide variety of games, including popular franchises such as Call of Duty, FIFA, and Grand Theft Auto. It also features exclusive titles such as The Last of Us Part II, God of War, and Spider-Man. Sony claims the PS4 is 10 times more powerful than PS3 in terms of CPU and GPU and thus it is an advisable upgrade to the Play Station 3 and even better if you have been holding on to the PS2..

In addition to gaming, the PS4 also offers a variety of entertainment options, including streaming services like Netflix and Hulu, as well as the ability to play Blu-ray discs and DVDs. The console also has social media integration, allowing players to share their gameplay experiences with friends and followers.

Should buy a PS4 in 2023

For most people the question is whether the PS4 is a worthwhile investment in 2023. There are a lot of alternatives when it comes to gaming, Personal computers with an array of up-grade capabilities depending on one’s budget, the Xbox, Nintendo and so on, however Sony has had a lot invested in consoles ever since the release of the PlayStation one in 1994. Sony has been making cumulative improvements ever since and almost ten years down the line the PS4 is still a worthy contender in the console category.

Currently you can purchase a PlayStation 4 for about $163 - 350 on popular online sites such as ebay as well as on amazon, in Kenya prices start at $179 on wards albeit for a used model, compared to the PlayStation 5 with prices starting at $510 to 610 its clear why one may opt for a PS4 purely based on a budget standpoint. As of January 2021 Sony announced that it will stop production of PS4s however sources claim that Sony is still producing the PS4 due to scarcity of chips required for the new kid on the block.

The graphics on the PlayStation 4 are nothing to scoff at, images are detailed and appealing and the games load considerably fast in comparison to the PS3 and supports both 720p and 1080p at 30 fps, unfortunately 4K is only supported on the PS4 Pro. Owing to the popularity of the PS4 there is a wide range of games available and developers are still interested in producing games on the platform and the PlayStation 4 is not obsolete by any measure . In terms of design PS4 is sturdily made, the focus may have been mostly on performance rather than aesthetics and with support for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and featuring USB 3.1 the PS4 was away of its time and is still worth it in 2023.

Bottom-line

To sum it all up, the PlayStation 4 is a great upgrade presuming that you own a PlayStation 3 or downward and your budget cannot allow you to acquire a PS5, whether you still own the PS4 and you are considering holding on to it considering you have stocked a good collection of PS4 games, the console is not outdated, additionally the drop in price makes it affordable to many that may consider an attempt at console gaming.
